Success of pilot programme in 147 AP villages encourages the Trust to offer vocational training for 30,000 youth in Krishna district. Extension to other districts being considered
NTR Memorial Trust, known for its pioneering social work in areas like entrepreneurship, blood bank, primary healthcare as also women and child welfare, today announced that it would provide vocational training free of cost to 30,000 youth under its Yuva Niraman programme in Krishna district.
The announcement comes close on the heels of the success of Yuva Niraman pilot programme benefiting 3,010 youth across Andhra Pradesh. The pilot programme covered 147 villages across the state.
“Most of the 3,010 youngsters, who have undergone vocational training with us since January 2008, have secured placements” says Mr P Raghu Rama Rao, Chief Executive Officer, NTR Memorial Trust. “Several of these youth have turned entrepreneurs.”
The Yuva Niraman programme has been inspired by the ideals of the late N T Rama Rao who firmly believed that imparting skills was the only way of empowering people. The Trust is drawing up plans to extend the scheme to other districts in the state.
“We are thrilled with the response from the firms which have hired the youth trained by us,” says Mr Raghu Rama Rao. “Now we are encouraged to customise the programme for companies seeking to employ such youth. In this regard, we could work with such companies in Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. We are also looking at empanelling experts with a view to enriching the programmes.”
“The vocational training programme has created a win-win situation both for Andhra Pradesh youth and for companies which have employed them,” says Mr Chigurupati Varaprasad, MLC. “Being an educationist, I feel that organisations like NTR Memorial Trust have the potential to emerge as the bridge between academia and industry. I urge more corporates and philanthropists to join hands with the Trust so that the fruits of development reach the rural areas faster.”
The Trust provides vocational training free of cost to youth in the age group of 20 to 30 years.
The Trust trains youth in computers, spoken English, tailoring, embroidery, fabric painting, etc. Among the other areas of vocational training are making of detergent powder, candles and incense sticks. Course duration ranges from one week to four months.
The Trust also trains and finds placements for youth in private security services.

NTR Memorial Trust to open state-of-the-art blood bank in Guntur
NTR Memorial Trust, which is know for its pioneering work in areas like blood bank, primary healthcare, women and child welfare, is planning to set up a state-of-the-art blood bank in Guntur at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
The new blood bank will bring the benefits of world-class blood collection and processing to the people of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Khammam and Nalgonda districts.
“Our dream of providing world-class blood bank services to the people of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Khammam and Nalgonda districts has been realised faster due to the contributions made by Dr Nagalla Kishore’s Ayodhyaramaiah Memorial Trust and Sri. Chigurupati Varaprasad,” says Mr P Raghu Rama Rao, Chief Executive Officer, NTR Memorial Trust. “Such whole-hearted support is encouraging us extend our services, which are provided free-of-cost to millions of people, across the state.”
The Guntur blood bank of NTR Trust will be ready in a month’s time at Kothapeta, Guntur.
Dr Nagalla Kishore, Chairman, Ayodhyaramaiah Memorial Trust, has announced a donation of Rs 10 lakh for NTR Memorial Trust’s blood bank in Guntur. Mr Chigurupati Varaprasad, MLC, along with his friends and family members, donated Rs 5 lakh towards the blood bank.
“NTR Memorial Trust has been saving millions of lives across Andhra Pradesh by providing blood which is being collected and processed as per global norms,” says Dr Nagalla Kishore, himself a well-known medical doctor of Guntur. “We are honoured to be part of the noble mission of providing the cleanest and safest blood to patients.”
“NTR Memorial Trust is helping Guntur take a giant leap in healthcare services,” says Chigurupati Varaprasad. “We are delighted to support their blood bank.”
This is the second state-of-the-art blood bank of the NTR Trust in the state. The first blood bank of the Trust has been functioning in the state since January 2008. The blood bank has served about 20,000 patients. The Blood Bank is managed by qualified professionals and is ISO 9001 certified.
